By becoming a Volunteer at the Black Restitution Initiative, Inc., you can save lives by change the living conditions for millions of low-income individuals within the United States.  Volunteering offers rewarding learning opportunities, as well as a chance to make a difference and give back to your community by supporting those in greatest need.  The Black Restitution Initiative, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) tax exempt public charity and Volunteers receive certain tax benefits by working with us.  The tax benefits of Volunteering at the Black Restitution Initiative, Inc., includes:

1.  OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSES

When you volunteer to do charitable work, your related out-of-pocket expenses may be deductible such as phone, postage, and supplies to create signs.  A volunteer cannot claim the value of their time, skills and expertise as a tax deduction.

2.  TRAVEL AND MILEAGE DEDUCTION

All travel including by Air, rail, bus, taxi are tax deductible for Volunteers.  If you use your car while volunteering away from home, you can deduct directly related expenses – such as gas and oil – or use the ‘14 cents per mile’ mileage deduction.  Volunteers can also deduct for Parking Fees and Tolls.  Make sure you save any relevant receipts.  There are no deduction for General repair/maintenance, Depreciation, Registration fees, insurance, or Tires.

3.  LODGING, FOOD, & CLOTHING EXPENSES

Volunteers can deduct things like lodging, food, snacks you provided during an event, and the cost of buying and cleaning uniforms you must wear while volunteering.
